Eesti Joonisfilm is pleased to announce that the 2018 animated film by Morten Tšinakov and Lucija Mrzljak, A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts, has been selected for competition in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The Annecy Festival, taking place from 10-15 June, in France, is one of the biggest and most important category-A animated film festivals in the world. A total of 3040 films from 86 countries were submitted to Annecy this year, out of which 80 short animations were selected for presentation at the festival, with 40 of those reaching competition, including A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts.
Marcel Jean (Canada), Artistic Director for the festival, characterised the selection of films with the following words: ‘This year’s selection of short animation films reflects an exceptionally high level of art.’
Being selected for competition in the Annecy Festival is a tremendous honour for our young authors. This the first independent film for both Morten Tšinakov and Lucija Mrzljak after graduating from the Department of Animation at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Completed in 2018, the film has already received a series of awards from different festivals around the world.
A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts tells the tale of an especially ingenious man, who has been awaited for a long time and who is born into this world in a most unusual way. And the people, who are waiting for something big from the man and follow him everywhere.
A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts was completed in association with the studio Adriatic Animation (Croatia). Production of the film was supported by the Estonian Film Institute, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
