DESTINED TO BE DEAD: Eesti Joonisfilm is not giving up and will continue to produce artistic films

Despite the course changes made in recent years to state film financing, Eesti Joonisfilm will continue to produce artistic short films, preserving the artistic direction in the field of animation, which have served to bring Estonia international renown and recognition over a period of many years.

Three new low budget films from young directors have recently been completed and are set to premiere on 31 May, at the cinema Sõprus.

Eesti Joonisfilm is presenting Destined to be Dead, by Francesco Rosso; A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts, by Morten Tšinakov and Lucija Mrzljak; and the Strawberry Eaters, by Mattias Mälk.

The production of the films was supported by the Estonian Film Institute, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.

All of the authors are graduates of the Animation Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts. They were brought to Eesti Joonisfilm by the studio’s experiences and the atmosphere for making animated films that strive to achieve a unique artistic identity. Thanks in large part to this atmosphere, the unique full length animated film Lotte and the Lost Dragons, which is dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Estonia and will be finding its way into cinemas at the beginning of 2019, is being completed in cooperation between Eesti Joonisfilm and Rija Films (Latvia).
